Kinetic Loop is an interactive sound installation, where the participant can record short samples with a microphone and dynamically paint the loops in a 24 channel speaker wall. By painting the sound into the speaker wall, the sample recorded and selected will start to play from the speakers the participant moves the controller over. The velocity of the movement is translated into the speed of the loop playing for each speaker. Kinetic Loop has 8 channels for the samples, so it allows for a lot of texture and variation in both the sound and spatiality.
The interaction happens with HTC Vive controller. It acts as a "sound paint brush" to paint the sound, but also for interacting with the 8 loop banks projected on a table. Touching a bank on the table with the controller selects it, and with the trigger button one can record a short loop in the selected bank. Each bank shows the waveform of its sample for visual aid.
Kinetic Loop will be exhibited in different speaker configurations in the future. It is encouraging everyone to embrace creating sound art with their own voice and body.
